Developing a Site Through WordPress // First Impression

As an established fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogger through HostGator, I couldn’t help comparing WordPress to the Site Builder Provided when you purchase a domain through HostGator. Exploring the ins and outs of wordpress after being exposed to a different website platform was challenging, although felt the tool bar is extremely helpful.

I opted for the free version of WordPress and found the amount of individuality is limited. There are only a few options for themes, and I find it difficult to make a site appear to be professional and unique when everyone else is using the same free options. On the contrary, the free starter pack is a great option for someone who is looking into starting a website but does not want to commit to the three year payment plans.  I was impressed with how easy it is to edit and rearrange a WordPress site. With just a brief overview of the tool bar, I was immediately designing and personalizing my webpage. Anyone can create an online presence through  Wordpress.

It was frustrating to find out I was unable to transfer my old site to WordPress. Eventually I do want to explore the options I have with HostGator but for the purposes of this class, I’m going to have to keep the sites separate. I wish I hadn’t spent a few days trying to import my website and instead spent more time focusing on this page. I am looking forward to the midterm assignment, and will be able to use my pre-exisiting site with HostGator.
